Historical Cave Point

Located just north of Whitefish Dunes State Park on the eastern coast of Door County,
 Cave Point County Park
was a highlight of our trip.

Looking across the water, it was hard to tell the horizon.
The water and sky seemed to blend together into a surreal almost
other worldly view.
It did feel rather eerie at times.

The water in some of these photos looks like Cave Point is the
Caribbean of Door County showcasing the clear turquoise water.

What a difference three days can make.
We were exploring the peninsula and wanted to get a few more photos and
made our way to Cave Point again.
Today was much colder and windier.
Compare these pictures with those taken on Monday,
from calm, tranquil waters to turbulent seas.
Both are spectacular.

The underwater caves were formed over thousands of years
from the surf pounding against the limestone bluffs.
When the winds blow hard off Lake Michigan,
there is a thunder-like sound, which is actually the waves crashing against the cliffs.
We felt the power under our
feet and experienced the water spray, which can shoot up to 20 feet in the air! The view from above the bluff is spectacular.
