Around the City and Auto Touring the Great Smoky Mountains

Wednesday was a day to kick back and enjoy the beautiful Tennessee weather and mountains.

 We started our day going to the Opry in Pigeon Forge to see the famous gospel singers, 

The Blackwoods.

 It's Christmas in the Smokies.

There were many buses of seniors in the auditorium.  Doug and I were the few who did not
travel in a group.

The Blackwoods are finishing their final season here and moving on to the Branson area.  

I am sure we will see them there as that is where we have our home timeshare.

The show was two hours consisting of gospel and Christmas and a tribute to America.

It was well worth seeing.

Then we took another scenic drive through the mountains to shop
the Arts and Crafts stores

along the 8 mile loop.

The day was one of our best.  The temperatures rose to the low 80's,
 and there was no rain today.

Thursday, November 5th...

Today we are driving through the mountains again to

enjoy their majesty.

The mountains displayed their autumn colors, perfect for photographing.
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park encompasses
over 800 square miles and is
one of the most pristine natural area in the East.

There are over 270 miles of road to choose from in the Smokies

and most are paved.

 As we traveled along The Little River Road, we saw tumbling mountain
streams.

We traveled to the Carlos Campbell Overlook again, but

then drove the Little River Road to Highway 73.

We took Highway 321 to Wear Valley and then around to Pigeon Forge.

We browsed around this store and purchased some jams

and delicious homemade fudge.

After touring the mountains, we descended into Pigeon Forge and visited
The Island.
You know you are on the Island when you see the Ferris wheel.

 We did a little shopping in the Kryptonite.
We thought of our grandsons, the perfect destination for them.

Yes, it is beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Gatlinburg!

It is a beautiful mix of orange, gold, and red autumn colors on the mountains

 and festive Christmas lights in the city.

After a busy day of sight seeing,
we had dinner and a show at Dolly Parton's famous
Dixie Stampede.

 This was the first week of her annual Christmas show.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.
 And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
