Getting the Lay of the Land

We are getting ourselves acclimated to the altitude of 9,600 feet.  And, today we decided to acclimate ourselves to the city and surrounding areas by riding the Breckenridge "free ride" transit system and Summit Stage free public transportation. We spent the morning and half of the afternoon exploring the area on these buses.

We road all of the routes including the black route that took us up the mountain to Peak 8.

We took the bus route to Boreas Pass.  We did not get to the lookout area as it was not open for observation.  However, we did see some spectacular scenery.

These are views from the Boreas Pass.

We switched to the Summit Stage bus and rode to the nearby town of Frisco.  We descended about 600 feet.  Frisco is about 9 miles from Breckenridge.

We found a great restaurant for lunch, The Butterhorn Bakery & Cafe.  The restaurant was packed, which was understandable once you tasted the food.

We opted for a table outside even though it was a little windy, the temperatures were in the mid 60's and the skies were sunny.

I ordered the Spinach Salad and Doug had the Ten Mile High Turkey Sandwich, turkey breast with Muenster cheese on a grilled jalapeño cheddar baguette with guacamole, tomato and onion.
My salad was layered with spinach, red onion, mandarin orange, carrots, walnuts, tomato, sunflower seeds, and grilled chicken with a balsamic vinaigrette dressing.
I will include a blog of this salad.  It is perfect for a summer meal.

We returned to our lodge to relax and take in the mountain views and sunny temperatures.
