Father's Day in Breckenridge

Today was spent sight seeing and buying souvenirs
at the local shops and farmers market.
And it is also Father's Day Today.

Beautiful Rocky Mountain skies.
Today the weather was sunny and in the 60's.
Breckenridge is the oldest Colorado town west of the Continental Divide.  In 1859, prospectors discovered gold along the banks of the Blue River and Breckenridge was born.
Today, Breckenridge has one of the largest historic districts in the state with more than 250 contributing structures.  Victorian buildings line the downtown streets.

Getting ready for the Farmer's Market.

Kingdom Days is celebrated in Breckenridge as an event to celebrate the town's history.
For decades it was believed that Breckenridge was inadvertently left off a U.S. map in the mid-1800's
and became known as "Colorado Kingdom" until the mistake was discovered nearly a half century later when it was finally incorporated.

These were the Outhouse Races, part of Breckenridge's Kingdom Days.
Breckenridge was discovered in 1859.  Breckenridge was thrust into the spotlight when Tom Groves discovered a 13.5 pound piece of wire gold- the largest found in Colorado.
The day was filled with activities as face painting, free concert, proclamation of historical accounts, outhouse races, hula hoop contests, gold panning, and other entertainment.

"The Running of the Bowels" won the Outhouse Races.

This is the Breckenridge Spice & Tea Merchants shop where we bought specialty sugars
and Black Truffle Sea Salt.

Beautiful mountain view.
