The Great Passion Play in Eureka Springs

The Great Passion Play
in Eureka Springs was a highlight of our trip
to the Branson area.

We enjoyed a tour of the Holy Land at Eureka Springs.

We experienced Biblical life  with cisterns, sheep pens, guard towers,
and a full-scale replica of the Tabernacle.

Replica of the Tabernacle.
I enjoyed this because it was a visual of the actual size of the Tabernacle
that was carried through the wilderness as Moses led the children of Israel out of Egypt.

Tabernacle means “tent,” “place of dwelling” or “sanctuary.”
It was a sacred place where God chose to meet His people, the Israelites, during the 40 years they wandered in the desert under Moses’ leadership. It was the place where the leaders and people came together to worship and offer sacrifices.

 More of the tour...

A representation of what the Last Supper may have looked like.

This Christian attraction has been performed since 1968 in the beautiful Ozark Mountains in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

A demonstration of The Potter.
Each evening before The Great Passion Play performance,
the Potter stands at his wheel molding clay into form. As he works the clay, The Potter teaches from inspirational passages of the scriptures, including Jeremiah 18.

Joe Smith spent much of his adult life making pottery on a potter's wheel
very similar to what they would have used back in Bible days.

On to the Passion Play...

The Great Passion Play  is "America's #1 Attended Outdoor Drama"
according to the Institute of Outdoor Theatre and Drama of East Carolina University at Greenville.

However,
The Great Passion Play theme park went bankrupt in late 2012, closing all of its staffed attractions.
It was purchased by a Christian radio network,
which quickly reopened all of the park's outdoor statues and monuments.
The rest of the attractions reopened on May 3, 2013.

Staged in an outdoor amphitheater, the multi-level set, special lighting and sound effects, live animals, dozens of birds, and a cast of 170 Biblically costumed actors come together to create the thrilling epic drama of Jesus Christ's last days on earth.

This drama set into the hillside is staged on a massive set that is three-stories tall and 550 feet across!
The play begins at 8:30 PM for the dramatic effects of the resurrection shown after dark.
There are 4,000 seats available.
