For decades it was believed that Breckenridge was inadvertently left off a U.S. map in the mid-1800's
and became known as "Colorado Kingdom" until the mistake was discovered nearly a half century later when it was finally incorporated.
These were the Outhouse Races, part of Breckenridge's Kingdom Days.
Breckenridge was discovered in 1859. Breckenridge was thrust into the spotlight when Tom Groves discovered a 13.5 pound piece of wire gold- the largest found in Colorado.
The day was filled with activities as face painting, free concert, proclamation of historical accounts, outhouse races, hula hoop contests, gold panning, and other entertainment.
